East Coast Trip Page 7
Tuesday, June 12, 2007: Driving most of the day today, we set out from the crappy Motel 6 in Elmira for Watkin's Glen. Watkin's Glen is famous for the race once a year that takes place there, of course, but it's also been a tourist attraction since before the turn of the century when folks came to look at the rocks and waterfalls like we still do today. I haven't been there in ages, so we did the rim hike for a few miles.
Watkin's Glen
Then we drove a couple hours north to Letchworth State Park and did another rim hike of all the falls, upper, middle and lower falls. Well, we drove part of that way since we were wimpy. But there were a lot of steps... Here are some shots of the falls. I always love Letchworth, David seemed to like it, too.
Right: middle falls. Left: upper falls.
At lunch at this grat placed right next to Letchworth called Brian's Diner, David noticed my face was loooking a little bit puffy. Indeed: I have poison ivy! I think I probably peed in it on Cape Cod, it's all over my hips and legs, and I must have been itching it (well yes, actually, i was itching like mad) and touching my face, my hands etc because it was spreading all over my face and hands too. Lovely. Over the days it began to crust and blister, too. It's awful! We drove to mom and dad's house in Rochester after Letchworth and had a nice dinner at home and watched the fireflies in the bushes behind the creek before bed. It was nice.
Tuesday we spent all day on the boat with mom and dad. Mostly getting sunburned but kayaking and looking at the baby turtles on the fallen logs. We saw some hawks which we couldn't identify, a belted kingfisher (well, all of us but mom), cormorants, swans, ducks, baby goslings and ducklings. We swam and then went tubing, well David impressed us all with his tubing prowress at least, then we had dinner at California Rollin' for some awesome sushi before taking a walk on the new wetlands walkway in Rochester that was absolutely awesome.
Good times. Wednesday we flew home after having the Town for lunch and getting David hooked up with some pizza rolls to stave off his craving for them, and I introduced him to the Maxi's Chicken Finger Sub for the plane ride home. Quite a trip.
